Run in-app campaigns (popups)
Show a popup in your app, such as new arrivals, a flash sale with a countdown or an announcement, and choose when it appears. No store review needed.
In this article
In-app campaigns are popups that appear inside your mobile app: a bottom sheet, a modal, a full-screen page or a top banner. Use them for new arrivals, a flash sale, a poster or an announcement. Prices and availability always come live from Shopify.
Create a campaign
- Open Campaigns and click Create campaign.
- Choose a template and click Customize:
- New Arrivals: your latest products with an “Explore now” button.
- Flash Sale: a countdown timer with products on sale.
- Poster Campaign: your own poster or promotional graphic.
- Announcement: news, app updates, perks or offers.
- Edit the campaign. Templates start with your own collections and free banner photos, which are copied to your image library. Replace or change anything.
Edit what it shows
In the editor, Campaign sections lists the parts of your popup. Click Add section to add an image or GIF, banners, a countdown timer, products, a button, text or a coupon code. Drag to reorder. A campaign needs at least one section.
The preview in the middle shows the popup on iPhone or Android. Click Replay popup to see it appear again.
Add a coupon code
Use a discount code that already exists in Shopify under Discounts. We check it when you publish. If it isn’t found or isn’t active, you’ll see a message asking you to create it in Shopify first. Customers can copy the code or apply it to their cart.
Choose when it appears
Click Popup, trigger & schedule:
- Popup appearance: the style (bottom sheet, modal, full screen or top banner), colours, and whether customers can close it.
- When to show it: when the app opens, after a delay, or when a customer views a screen such as Home, Product or Cart. Choose how often: once, once per session, once per day or every time.
- Schedule: optional start and end dates, and a priority. When several campaigns are live, the one with the highest priority shows first.
Only one popup shows at a time, and none show while your app is in maintenance mode.
Publish, pause and update
- Click Publish. The campaign shows in your app the next time customers open it. No App Store or Google Play review is needed.
- Edits go to a draft first. For a live campaign, click Update live campaign to publish your changes.
- Click Pause to stop it. A paused campaign can be published again.
- Pause a live campaign before you delete it.
Each campaign card shows views, taps and tap rate, counted only from customers who agreed to analytics in your app.
How many campaigns can be live
| Plan | Live campaigns |
|---|---|
| Basic | 1 |
| Growth | 2 |
| Scale | 10 |
| Enterprise | 50 |
A campaign counts once it’s published, even if its start date is later. Paused campaigns don’t count. At your limit, pause one or upgrade your plan.
Tip: Translate a campaign from its Translate tab, so customers see it in their phone’s language (AI translation is included in Growth and up).
